WRITE NOW! assemblies are designed for groups of up to 225 students consisting of one or two consecutive grade levels.
Program Length & Scheduling
WRITE NOW! assemblies run 40-60 minutes (see Program Information for details); writing workshop classroom visits run 60 minutes; and residency-based classroom visits run 45 minutes. The author will lead up to four assemblies or five writing workshop/residency sessions in a single day. Ten minutes is needed between each assembly, and five minutes is needed between each classroom session. In the event the assembly location changes during the day, a minimum of thirty minutes is required for breakdown and set-up. For full-day visits, a minimum 45 minute lunch break is required. The author is unavailable for school visits on Fridays.
Set-Up Requirements
For assemblies, the room must be available thirty minutes prior to the start of the first session. General needs: six-foot table; chair; large dry erase or chalkboard and 1 dry erase/flip chart pad easel or 3 dry erase/flip pad easels; microphone (wireless, if available) and PA system; and stereo CD player ("boom box"). Students should sit on the floor. For classroom sessions, the author will use the classroom’s main chalk/dry erase board. Two to three weeks before the visit, the author will contact you to discuss the specifics of your facilities and determine the best set-up strategy. If the room is a gymnasium with partitions, closing the partitions will make the presentation space more intimate. If the room also serves as the lunch room, please set aside space for the equipment to occupy during lunch. Please have someone on hand to serve as the author’s liaison with the presentation site.
Presentation Fees
Fees are based on the total scope of your program and, unless otherwise specified, include all travel-related expenses. After you fill out the Contact Us form, the author will send you a proposal that includes an accurate price quote. All visits (except schools using BOCES funding) require a deposit to hold the date. The balance is due on the day of the visit.
Book Sales and Signings
Organizations wishing to sell copies of the author’s books must make their own arrangements through the publisher (Scholastic, Inc: 800-SCHOLASTIC) or another supplier. A list of the author's books will be provided, and arrangements for book signings must be made prior to the author's visit. Book signed during the course of the author's school day visit will not be personalized. (For signing opportunities that include personalized books, see "Family Nights.") Please note that the author will sign only his books (no merchandise, hands, student drawings, etc.).
